Where have we come from and where are we going

In early 2020 we decided there was more to life than working to live and living to work.

Changes were needed, freedom was needed!

We sold our beautiful yacht (our home for the last five years) and moved from Hartlepool in Country Durham to live in a woodland called Coed Glannant in Ystradgynlais.

"What do you want with a woodland?" some people asked. (To be fair, these were the same people who asked "What do you want with a yacht" some five years earlier), and we gave them the same answer.

"We want somewhere different to live, somewhere sustainable and somewhere where we can support ourselves without the need for money".

Coed Glannant seemed to tick all the boxes and in many respects, it probably still would.

We grew much of our own food, we kept chickens, we kept pigs and we created things using only hand tools.

It was very satisifying but didn't work as well as we had hoped as the Welsh weather gods repeatedly threw some horrendous rain at us and somethings struggled to grow.

Further, the same weather gods filled the sky with grey clouds for months and the solar didn't work.

What was needed was some sunshine.

In early 2025 I questioned Tegs about why we were here in South Wales. She replied "we're creating a sustainable lifestyle for ourselves"

"But why here specifically" I asked. "Why here in South Wales when we could be anywhere else in the world"

We had a 'penny drop' moment then put our beloved woodland up for sale.

Fast-forward a year and we have sold the woodland and bought a similar sized plot with a ruined house in Portugal and we're about to embark on the next chapter in our lives.

Casa de Jegs will be no ordinary place to live, Casa de Jegs will be the very living itself.

Sucessfully managing the land will allow us to live virtually free. Everything we need will come from the land and everything will go back into the land in a continuous cycle.

Feel free to join us and see how this journey progresses .....
